The Winter season of Athletics is turning out very well - although off to a bumpy start with El Niño causing a few rain-outs, and sudden coaching changes midseason. The teams have shown great resilience and we're looking forward to a great rest of the season!

On the soccer side of Mirman Athletics, I am excited to announce the arrival of our new Head Soccer Coach, David Mor. Coach David brings with him new energy and enthusiasm to Mirman. Coach David is a licensed soccer coach, extensively trained and experienced in coaching high school, college, and competitive youth boys and girls of all ages for over 25 years. We welcome Coach David to Mirman Athletics!

The girls started their soccer season off with a bang, defeating Valley School with a final score of 7-2. The offensive attack was led by Naalah C., who scored 5 goals, with Sukari F. and Lily S. each adding one goal a piece. We also had 2 great saves a piece by our keepers Madison H. and Simone P. Overall, the Mustangs played very well together and are excited for what the season will hold. We have been focusing on a lot of fundamental skills that are beginning to show up during game play.

Mirman win versus Wise 5-4 (OT)
Despite the offense being clumped around the ball at several points, Naalah C. and Sukari F. were each able to find the back of the net on two occasions. With outstanding defensive plays and some big saves made by keeper Simone P., the Mustangs prevented the Wildcats from converting on many shots on goal. A true nail-biting match, Wise and Mirman exchanged several goals, which led to a draw at the end of regular play. After some confusion in regards to league rules, the Mustangs took the field for a 5 minute overtime period. Lily S. came up with a huge goal in overtime to help lead the Mustangs to their second victory. The camaraderie on this team continues to develop and Coach Alyssa is excited to see where it takes them.

Mirman loss versus VBS 2-3
The Mustangs faced off against VBS for their first match of the season. Pitted against an extremely talented opponent, the Mustangs quickly fell to a 0-3 deficit by the half. An early injury left only 9 viable players and the fatigue factor started to take its toll. However, the Mustangs refused to give up and played hard in the second half. Ella W. added 2 goals and keeper Josie W. came up with big saves, but it wasn't enough for the Mustangs to take the win. The final score was 2-3.

Mirman loss to Campbell Hall

The boys played very well together, considering the amount of time we have had together. Offensively, we started off slow in the first half, but played a hard and aggressive second half.
There is a lot of hidden talent in this group of young men and I am proud of the effort they gave. Although we did not come out with the win, we felt like this is the beginning of something special.
