In a long-held Mirman tradition, established by Leslie Mirman Geffen, each year Mirman students and their families gather at the Barker Hangar at the Santa Monica Airport to participate in the One Voice Holiday Food Program which provides Winter food baskets, toys, and books to 2,500 families (12,500 people) living in poverty in the Los Angeles area.

For more details, please see:

In the spirit of the holidays, each child receives books and toys and every family takes home a basket overflowing with all the makings of a wonderful holiday meal: a turkey, rolls, carrots, squash, potatoes, yams, onions, rice, beans, bags of apples and oranges, candy, a fresh apple pie and canned goods.

On Thursday, December 18th, from 7:30 PM – 9:00 PM, Mirman families with children of all ages are invited to sort and package the food. This is the night that is most appropriate for children as well as adults. There can be a wait to enter the hangar so it is best to arrive by 7:00 and to fill out a Sign-In Form in advance:

For safety reasons, groups of kids will only be admitted if there is at least 1 adult to supervise every 2-3 kids and it can be chilly in the Hangar so please dress warmly.

This is a wonderful opportunity for all of the children to experience hands-on community service and 2 hours of credit for off-campus Community Service will be given to all Upper School students who participate in the event.

Please contact alumna and Mirman parent Lisa Anderson '76-'84 should you have any questions about the event at [email protected] or 310-717-5506.
