Helping Hands Brings Community Service to Campus
On Thursday, May 26, Mirman School hosted our first annual Helping Hands community service event and it was outstanding! Our Mirman Service Learning Committee, in conjunction with administrator and faculty support, developed this opportunity as a way for the community to come together to work collectively with community partners to engage in a variety of service projects.
Our community partners included CalVet, Children's Hospital Los Angeles, Children's Institute, Inc., Foster Children's Resource Center, and Shane's Inspiration. Students, parents, and staff participated in designing papier-mâché flower pots for California veterans living in CalVet facilities, making rainbow loom bracelets for US2 and US4 buddies from Shane's Inspiration and Children's Institute, Inc., and sorting toiletries and assembling back-to-school items for Foster Children's Resource Center. Students and staff also helped lead our food and beverage station for participants, and our own Ally O. was the Helping Hands DJ throughout the event.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the entire Mirman community for their efforts in making our first Helping Hands event a success. Representatives from CalVet, Children's Institute, Inc., Foster Children's Resource Center, and Shane's Inspiration were also able to join us for the event and shared their appreciation as well. We are looking forward to many more opportunities like this to come!
