On Wednesday, Mirman School's Lower and Upper School Spanish Departments coordinated a school-wide, immersive experience for students to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Enjoy a video and photo gallery below!

The day started off with a bang... and then many, many more bangs as we welcomed Aztec performers to demonstrate their traditional drumming and dance ceremonies.

Our morning assembly was fully run by students speaking in Spanish. The crowd recited the Pledge of Allegiance, sang Happy Birthday, conducted movement activities, and the Mustang Chorus performed "Las Mañanitas." Last, but not least, students who dressed up as famous Hispanics got to participate in a Costume Parade. The students honored Sonia Sotomayor, Supreme Court Judge, Frida Kahlo, Mexican painter, Ellen Ochoa, NASA astronaut, Cesar Chavez, Civil rights activist, Gustavo Dudamel, Director of the L.A. Philharmonic, and Lionel Messi, professional soccer player.

During lunch, the students ordered their food in Spanish and dishes were clearly labeled to help them learn some tasty vocabulary.

Muchas gracias to the PSL Celebrations Committee for all their help in organizing this event!
