Speaker Series: Alumna Lizzy Weiss Discusses Television Production
On December 17, alumna Lizzy Weiss ’78-’82 returned to campus to share her experiences in the entertainment industry with Mr. Jeffery Flagg's Multimedia Film Production LEAP class. Lizzy is an award-winning screenwriter, television creator, producer, writer, and showrunner best known for her hit TV show Switched at Birth.
Lizzy explains how she thrives in the hurried pace and rigorous environment of TV production: "I’m a big believer in writing, in jumping in. I don’t like a lot of setup. I like getting to the conflict, and going from there. That’s the thing about TV, it is fast. You have to be the kind of person who likes to do things fast."
Lizzy discovered her love for TV production at a young age, where, before the days of the internet, she had to teach herself how to write by dissecting her favorite TV shows, scene by scene.
"I love TV because it’s a unique product. Every single week, Tuesday at 9pm, this show is coming on and you have to do it. I just think that’s more fun."
