Science in Fourth Grade
Students in Fourth Grade refine their practice of the scientific method within the curriculum through engaging, relevant, and hands-on activities. The curriculum is designed to go in-depth with a variety of scientific concepts within the life and physical sciences at a microscopic level in order to build a strong knowledge base and science skills. Activities and experiments are designed to help students make connections and understand the essential concepts within the scientific disciplines and their real world applications.
Through meaningful, inquiry-based learning opportunities, students will experience both the scientific and engineering design processes and gain the following skills:
- The methods of scientific observation, experimentation, modeling, and analysis.
- Researching to develop evidence-based explanations for scientific phenomena.
- Asking questions and defining problems that includes specified criteria and constraints.
- Carrying out investigations by planning fair tests in which variables are controlled and failure points are explored to make improvements.
- Analyzing and interpreting data using mathematics and computational thinking.
- Engaging in argument from evidence, and obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information.

- Chemistry: Atoms, Elements, The Periodic Table of Elements Content.
