Technology in Fourth Grade

In Third and Fourth Grade, students explore more advanced tools and applications, often interweaving multiple tools into a single project or goal. Students explore what it means to be a responsible digital citizen in the global world and projects are often ongoing or long-term. A focus is made on organization, collaboration, digital citizenship, and the impact of their digital lives on themselves and society. Whether making use of programming languages, shared projects, or 3D imaging, student work towards competency and fluidity across platforms and applications, choosing tools that are most effective in meeting a given need.

Design Thinking

Students in Fourth Grade strengthen their mastery of Design Thinking by developing apply During the first semester, students practice focus specifically on each phase of the Design Thinking framework through interdisciplinary practicums (with an increased emphasis on mathematical reasoning and scientific inquiry) and creativity challenges. Additionally, there is an increased independence in the use of prototyping tools (e.g. manual/power tools, 3D modeling). During the second semester, Fourth Grade students work in close collaboration with Lower School Science and Library Sciences on a capstone project related to their core curriculum.

For supplemental learning, Fourth Grade students will:
